Windows 7 enterprise upgrade to windows 10 education free. Can Windows 7 Enterprise be upgraded to Windows 10 free?

My current computer is running Windows 7 Enterprise from a license that I received from college. I know that I will not be able to upgrade for free to Windows 10, and I want to purchase either a Home or Pro license key.

What I am unsure about is whether or not I can do a direct upgrade from Windows 7 Enterprise to one of the Windows 10 versions and simply input this new license key, or if I am going to have to do a full system wipe and start from scratch - does anyone have any information on whether I can upgrade or if I have to do a full blown clean install? Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance. We will be happy to help. Was this reply helpful? Yes No.

Sorry this didn't help. Window 7 Enterprise is not eligible for the free upgrade to Windows 10 offered by Microsoft. Upgrades are for like-to-like editions: i. Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 10 Home. Therefore, you'll have obtain a Windows 10 license from your college, if they have aqquired them through the Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center to directly upgrade.

No, you can't upgrade from a higher SKU of Windows to a lower one. So yes, you'll have to clean install any lower SKU of Windows on your computer. In-place upgrading only works from lowest to highest not the reserve.
